Deacon Dan was ordained in 2011 to the Sacred Order of Deacons after five years of formation at the Oblate School of Theology and has been assigned to St. Pius X for his entire ministry. He and his wife Sherri have been parishioners at St. Pius X since 1992 after moving to San Antonio; they have two adult children and three grandchildren. Prior to his retirement, Deacon Dan had a long and varied career in railroad management that resulted in living in many locations around the country and a great deal of both domestic and international travel. After his early retirement he became active in ministry here at St. Pius X and was involved in several ministries including being the Youth Minister, Lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and three years as the parish business manager while the new gym was being constructed.
Since his ordination, besides his sacramental role as a Deacon such as presiding at Weddings and Baptisms, and serving at Mass, Deacon Dan has been an instructor for the RCIA Program, has taught adult education classes, and assisted with the Homiletics Classes of those men in formation to be ordained as Deacons. He enjoys reading, especially historical literature both related to the Church and secular. He continues to have an involvement in the railroad industry as a director of a railroad technology company and claims that he is the only active Deacon in the Archdiocese that can say he has run a steam locomotive.
